Director of Sacred Music

Mr. Christopher Johnson

I began playing the organ for church as a homeschooler when I was 11.  Under the tutelages of Dr. Joyce Jones (FAGO) and Marjorie Rasche (FAGO), I’ve won many state, local, and national organ competitions and scholarships. Frankly, the list is over a page long.  But a particularly fun highlight was in 2003 when I was invited as a “Rising Star” to play at the 2004 National AGO Convention in Los Angeles. It helped complete my goal of performing on both East and West coasts of the USA.  I taught as an adjunct lecturer at Navarro College shortly after receiving my Master’s Degree; and from 2015 to 2023, I served as Organist and Director of Music at the National Shrine Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe here in Dallas.  I’ve enjoyed a broad range of work including subrogation insurance adjuster, Series 7 stockbroker, and piano tuner.  When not sitting at the King of Instruments, I enjoy traveling with my wife and three kids.  Our most recent adventures took us to Haarlem, Netherlands; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Sydney, Australia.  In Haarlem, I played an enormous pipe organ that Mozart and Handel also played.  In 2025, I was an extra in the crowd for Season 6 of The Chosen.

As an art, music can be a particularly important way of proclaiming Christ because it succeeds in making his mystery perceptible with an eloquence all its own.” – Pope Benedict XVI
